Oh golly me it certainly has been a long time since I've updated. A lot has happened since then...well not really. School has certainly taken on a definite air of pointlessness that is a trifle bit annoying. Every morning I wake up a little bit later, hoping that one of these days school will be over. I've been thinking a lot about college and I'm excited for it. I'm not excited to leave friends behind though. But as Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote:
                   My heart is warm with the friends I make
                   And better friends I'll not be knowing
                   But there isn't a train I wouldn't take
                   No matter where it's going.

    That was my sister's senior quote. Pretty impressive choice there Kate the Great. To show you how long ago that was the only reason she picked that poem was because I had to memorize it for Mr. Hadinger's fifth grade class. Fifth grade doesn't seem like seven years ago. That's how we'll feel in four years when we're getting ready to graduate from college...I hope.

    Over these past few weeks I've found myself doing a lot of things for the first time. I voted for the first time last week and saw Mrs. Felman, the kindergarten teacher, taking the little slips of paper you hand in before you vote. Not to put too fine a point on it but she's getting on in years. I'm wondering how many election days she's worked there...perhaps ______ (this is blank because I know how closely the school administration reads our xangas and I wouldn't want this to be misconstrude so I'm leaving the blank fo you the reader to fill in). I also took my first trip to Iowa this past weekend. I suppose I should jump on the band wagon and add this: Grinnell College 2010 Anyway, as many of you know they grow corn out there in Iowa...that's an understatement, I think it would be more accurate to say that they collect corn out there because they have it everywhere. They even grow stuff on the grass which covers the median which divides the highway. Anyway, I thought the campus was nice. It's very large and many of the buildings have interior corridors where one may walk if the weather is bad. The people were nice too, especially my tourguide who seemed to me to be the sort with whom I would like to hang out. On Saturday of last weekend I got my first tour of the Iowa state Capitol...did you know the Iowa Capitol building uses 29 different types of mineral to decorate the interior? Didn't think so, nor do I think that you care at all. But hey, it seems like just the sort of useless fact one learns in Iowa.
    This week also marked the first time I've won something from the prom people. For those of you who weren't present, we had the post-prom sweepstakes on Monday and they called my name for one of the corsages...so I guess I'm going to the World Class Montgomery Shop-Rite for the corsage. Larissa, I'm sorry to take the choice out of your hands but what can I say? It's not everyday something like this happens...
    On a different note my interview with the scholarship people was today. Good luck to those of you out there who still need to go. I don't really feel very good about this whole thing because it inherently pits us all against each other. I suppose it's no different than applying to the same college as a friend, but since it is only limited to Montgomery High School it seems a little less ethical. Well good luck to all of you who still have to interview and good luck to those of you who still have to decide where to go to college.

    So, the ever so stressful college application process is over and I'll either be going to Grinnell in very isolated Iowa or I'll be going to Ole' Trin Trin in ghetto Hartford. In other words I'll either come back with straw in my teeth with a hint of a mid-western twang OR i'll come back in a body bag with enough bullet holes to sink the USS Constitution.
    Spring Break in a week eh? I can't wait. If it weren't for the unGodly number of track meets I have (three) during the week I would be happy. But it will still be fun cause Katy and Sam (and I guess Brian and Kristen too) are coming home to help my parents get ready to move. That's right I said move...the move that I was told we were going to make, but then weren't going to make, and now are going to make is back on. At least according to dad who says that it's a 95 percent chance. But the good news is it won't happen until deep into the summer so we'll probably be at college when the ink dries...worst ten years of my life!

So today was a good day. I ran well in track, which was a nice change of pace (get it, change of PACE?) because I hadn't been doing too well this season. So that was pretty motivating. I love running. It liberates me. Inspires me. Makes me feel like I'm worth something.
So anyway. *Cracks knuckles* Today I got into Dickinson College, in Pennsylvania. It was my safety, and probably my last choice. I still have to hear from Bates and Bowdoin, which are probably my top two choices.
Today's Government and Politics class was quite interesting. We learned history related material. I love history. Everything from Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence, to Napoleon Bonaparte and the Lousiana Purchase, to Herbert Hoover and the Great Depression, to John F. Kennedy and the Bay of Pigs, to George W. Bush and the War in Iraq.
Okay well I'm going to go watch some West Wing and Jeopardy.

So guess what guys, I'm pretty happy that Larissa and I are back together...we just found out that we both bought a johnny cash cd last night without even talking to each other...isn't that amazing? I know i'm being stupid but I just thought I'd mention it.

Also, anyone who is interested in coming over to play Scene It tomorrow night all are welcome to come over 7 30-8 PM...yeah I thought you'd close my site as soon as you read that... that's an interesting face--according to Xanga it means "Whatever"

And Joe told me this afternoon that Walt Disney was not frozen, he was actually cremated...now I can 't use my Chilling with Walt Disney joke anymore, it's a shame he was a cool guy, I guess Florida got too hot to hold him though DA DOOM CHING

    So an interesting thing happened when I walked into Latin class today...we started talking about Latin. Mrs. Hlubik is our teacher/supervisor since we really don't have a teacher per se. Needless to say it felt good to actually be moving forward. One of the big differences between Spanish and Latin, as I think she'll soon find out, is that we don't actually speak Latin, nor do we have pen pals named Jose whose families get sold into slavery in Guatamala.
    So I'm writing a paper on the battle of Shiloh from the Civil War; if anyone's interested in joining me. It's very enjoyable now that I'm reading this book that Mr. Washburn lent me Battle Cry of Freedom, it's the best book I've read on the Civil War and I've read a lot of them...I figure I should at least put into reality what I wrote on that survey in English: What do you do on your day off?
    a.) go to a baseball game
    b.) go shopping? duh! (No Mike, I'm not like you)
    c.) go to the library
I have to admit that if the Mets were in the playoffs I wouldn't think twice about going to the Mets game.
    I've just been informed that the Larissa + Dan getting back together story is becoming grist for the gossipmill...I suppose I should be flattered that I'm learning about myself through this gossipmill, usually I'm the last person to learn about gossip. Well, for the record, we are back together.

P.S.~I have recently become re-enraptured with Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego. Yay for you gumshoe, I am so pleased with your progress at catching that crook Carmen that I am promoting you to Master Detective.

Reading: Admissions' Letters from Hamilton
Hey Guys,
So today I got into Hamilton's January 2007 program. I called the admissions people and they said that because I was low on a part or parts of my application, but high on other parts, they wanted to offer me this deal. If I take it I'm going to be going to London for my first semester of college and then going to Clinton, NY to join the rest of my class. It's offered to about nine percent of the incoming freshmen and about half of that take it. I just feel really AMBIVALENT about this. The good part of this is that it's not binding, so I don't have to get back to them until May 1, after I've heard from my other colleges. It's relaxing to know that they have a spot for me, and I'm also happy at the prospect of going to London to start college...that'd be pretty sweet. Any ideas or comments that you guys have, since I want to know what other people think, are always welcome.
